Application Process

How To Apply

The Sun Prairie Education Foundation, Inc. does accept unsolicited grant proposals. All applicants must complete the Grant Request Form from the Web site as the first step. The Sun Prairie Education Foundation, Inc. will entertain one submission per organization in a twelve-month period.

Eligibility

Grants are made only to individuals and nonprofit organizations certified as tax exempt under Sections 501(c)(3) or 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code and are classified as "not a private foundation" under Section 509(a).

Limitations

As a general practice, the Sun Prairie Education Foundation, Inc. refrains from funding:

  • Annual funds, galas, or other special-event fundraising activities
  • Capital campaigns/renovation projects
  • Debt reduction
  • Emergency or disaster relief efforts
  • Dissertations or student research projects
  • Indirect/administrative costs
  • Sectarian religious activities, political lobbying, or legislative activities
  • Institutions that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation in policy or in practice
  • Loans, scholarships, fellowships, or grants to individualsRequests for international organizations or programs

Deadlines

The SPEF Trustees review Grant Requests on a bi-annual basis.  In some cases, a phone conference or site visit may be scheduled as part of the review process. The Grants Committee typically meets twice each year to consider requests. You will be notified if your proposal will be considered at one of the Grants Committee meetings or will take longer than four months to review.

Revocation

The SPEF explicitly reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to revoke any Grant at any time for any reason without advance notice to the Grant recipient.  While it is the intent of the SPEF to undertake such a revocation only in such circumstances where any one of the following is true:

  • It is reasonably believed that the reputation of the SPEF is or may be compromised
  • The Grant recipient fails to properly steward the Grant
  • The Grant recipient administers the Grant in a manner not consistent with the wishes of the SPEF
  • At the specific request of the Sun Prairie School District,this right is nevertheless expressly reserved and will be interpreted to provide the SPEF with broad authority to take such action.
